Welcome to the Institute of Computer Science

30.03.2023

We warmly welcome Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Jung as University Professor for Computer Engineering at the Chair of Computer Science XVII.

Matthias Jung studied electrical engineering and information technology at TU Kaiserslautern from 2006 to 2011. In 2017, he received his PhD with distinction from Prof. Norbert Wehn on the topic of "Modeling, Analysis and Optimization of DRAM Memories and their Controller Architectures". In 2018, he received the European Design and Automation Association (EDAA) Outstanding Dissertation Award for this work. At Fraunhofer IESE, he subsequently led many research and industrial projects in the area of embedded systems as an Expert Engineer and has published more than 70 papers in relevant journals and conference proceedings. Of these, 7 papers were awarded a Best Paper Award. In December 2022, he was appointed as professor for embedded systems at htw saar. In his spare time, he volunteers at the German Amateur Radio Club e. V. (DARC). There, as the federal officer for "Education, Youth and Continuing Education", the education of young people in the field of STEM and high frequency technology is close to his heart.

Matthias Jung's scientific focus is on embedded and autonomous systems, especially with a focus on memory architectures, functional safety, and virtual product development of embedded systems through virtual platforms and simulations.

At JMU, Matthias Jung will take over lectures in the area of technical computer science or computer engineering, pass on his knowledge from 10 years of professional experience to the students and continue his research in the area of embedded systems.
