Best Paper Award at RNDM 2025

23.06.2025

The paper "Theory Meets Practice: Assessment of Decomposition-Based Approximation in 2D Markov Models for Server Cluster Resilience" by Carina Baur, Frank Loh, and Tobias Hoßfeld from the Chair of Communication Networks, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg received the Best Paper Award at the 15th International Workshop on Resilient Networks Design and Modeling.

The 15th International Workshop on Resilient Networks Design and Modeling (RNDM) took place in Trondheim, Norway, on June 9-11, 2025. The paper presents a theoretical analysis of a decomposition-based approximation and evaluates the accuracy on different Markov model structures from the context of resilience modeling. It shows that approximations can lead to unexpected large errors and that models should be evaluated carefully before approximation.

A model for server cluster resilience is provided and analyzed, as part of the CELTIC-NEXT EUREKA CLUSTER flagship project SUSTAINET, see project description of "SUSTAINET-Advance: 6G-ECONETS" on Energy-aware Optimization in Converged Networks for Sustainable 6G.
