From the lecture hall to the market: Computer science master's students found startup avenia solutions
12/22/2025A project assignment during their master's studies has resulted in the creation of a fully-fledged company: Erik Spall and Timo Reusch, both master's students at the Institute of Computer Science, have founded the start-up avenia solutions. Their goal is to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the digitalization and automation of their business processes.
The founders place particular emphasis on the topic of “digital sovereignty.” They want to help their customers act independently and securely in the digital world and retain control over their own data and technologies.
They have already created their first product: “sonaris,” an intelligent social media marketing solution designed specifically for use in partner networks. The market launch of “sonaris” is planned for the second quarter of 2026.
Rooted in teaching and supported by SFT and ZDI
The founding idea matured in Professor Harald Wehnes' course “Professional Project Management in Practice – with Digital Business Start-ups.” Here, students not only gained valuable knowledge in modern project management, but also concrete insights into business start-up processes.
The team received advisory support for the implementation from the Service Center for Research and Technology Transfer (SFT) at the University of Würzburg and the Center for Digital Innovation in Lower Franconia (ZDI). SFT and ZDI accompany and support members of the university who want to realize a business idea.
The successful founding of avenia solutions impressively demonstrates how outstanding teaching, student initiative, and central support services from the university and the city of Würzburg can bear fruit. We congratulate Erik Spall and Timo Reusch on this important step and wish them every success for the future!
