CAIDAS @AI.BAY 2023

03/01/2023

On 23 and 24 February CAIDAS visited the AI.BAY 2023, the Bavarian International Conference on AI in Munich. We presented two projects at a joint booth with CAIRO from TWHS, and spokesperson Andreas Hotho gave an invited talk.

[Translate to Englisch:] The CAIDAS exhibition with Dr. Anna Krause, Prof. Andreas Hotho, Andrea Bartl, Franziska Westermeier and Prof. Goran Glavaš

The baiosphere, the Bavarian AI network, organized the AI.BAY 2023, the Bavarian International Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Anna Krause, Franziska Westermeier, and Andrea Bartl represented CAIDAS, the baiosphere's hub for data science, at the exhibition, while Prof. Andreas Hotho held an invited talk on "Data Science for Medicine, Climate, and More" during Friday's session on AI and data science. We were also joined by the CAIRO  team, representing the Technical University Würzburg-Schweinfurt.

CAIDAS highlighted its interdisciplinary research in the fields of AI for (Life) Sciences, and Human-Centered AI through two demonstrators in the exhibition: the we4bee smart hive and virtual(ly) me.

we4bee collects data in over 100 smart hives in Germany and aims research beehavior with AI algorithms for anomaly detection and semi-unsupervised learning. At the ai.bay, we exhibited the we4bee smart hive and an audio demonstrator for illustrating our latest research results into swarming. Visitors were able to gain insight into bee colonies by listening to bees in three different situations: normal life in the hive, a queen call before a swarm, and the hive during a swarm.

Virtua(ly) me is concered with digital incarnations of users, so called Avatars, in eXtended Realities (XR), social Virtual Reality, and the Metaverse. The use of Avatars in XR raises identity issues: How do you know the virtual human you are interacting with is the person they claim to be? Can you trust them? With the help of AI enhanced identity management movement data can be used to identify and authenticate users in virtuality. This demo showcases different visualizations for revealing the identity status of virtual humans.

Our exhibition was visited by various officials and ministers, most notably by Judith Gerlach. Her Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Digitales funds the we4bee research and we were delighted to demonstrate our most recent results to her.
