Prof. Dr. Marco Schmidt
Professor für eingebettete Systeme und Sensoren für Erdbeobachtung (ESSEO)
How can satellites, robots, and smart sensors help us better understand our planet?
My name is Marco Schmidt; I am a professor at Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg and lead the Embedded Systems and Sensors for Earth Observation (ESSEO) research group. Together with my team, we develop technologies at the intersection of space science, robotics, and computer science for Earth and environmental observation. Our work ranges from the development of small satellites and networked sensor systems to new methods for the efficient processing of large remote sensing datasets. All projects are situated within the context of space informatics and combine theoretical foundations with concrete applications.
You can find an overview of our projects here.
Short-CV:
- From 2022: Professor at University of Würzburg. Leading the ESSEO group. Research in earth observation and environmental monitoring with robotics and space technology.
- From 2021 to 2022: Professor at the newly founded CERI institute (Center Robotics) at the University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg Schweinfurt.
- From 2014 to 2021: Professor at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, initiation of the Robotics and Computer Technology group at Campus Velbert Heiligenhaus.
