Michael Banck (M.Sc.)

Research assistant

Details:

Michael Banck completed his Master’s degree in Computer Science at the Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Systems at the University of Würzburg in mid-2017. His thesis focused on developing an interactive tool for the segmentation and classification of MRI image data. Since 2015, he has worked as a software developer at HWS Gruppe, initially focusing on web and Android development. After graduating, he continued at HWS and was assigned to a long-term project at Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG, where he contributed to a legacy process control system as a full-stack developer. He later assumed the role of software architect and led a team developing a new microservices-based process control system.

In mid-2020, he returned to the University of Würzburg to join the Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Systems, collaborating with the University Hospital Würzburg. There, he contributed to the development of a real-time system for detecting polyps in the colon and helped design AI-based medical documentation software. Since mid-2023, he has been working with the Chair of Socially Interactive Agents (SIA), focusing on the development of an autonomous socially interactive agent designed to play social games with older adults. As of April 2025, he is officially affiliated with the SIA chair. His current interests include computer vision, natural language processing, and interactive AI systems for socially interactive agents.
