Exchange Semester in Tokyo, Japan

Bilateral Exchange between the University of Tokyo, School of Engineering, and the JMU Würzburg, Institute of Computer Science

Starting from the academic year 2024, two exchange spots are available annually for a semester abroad at the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). UTokyo is considered the most selective and prestigious university in Japan and is ranked among the best universities in the world.

  • Application Deadline: 15.01.
     
  • Application Documents:
    • Letter of Motivation
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Transcript of Records, e.g., from WueStudy
    • Proof of the recommended language proficiency in the language of instruction at the partner university
    • Letter of recommendation from a university lecturer

  • Available Spots: Two semester spots are available per academic year
     
  • Duration of Stay: Typically, one semester abroad is granted. Only in the case of a single application per year, both semester spots can be occupied by one student.
     
  • Tuition Fees: Within the exchange program, the (considered high for German standards) tuition fees are waived
     
  • Language Proficiency:
    • Sufficient English language skills are required. Submission of TOEFL and/or IELTS results is optional but recommended
    • Basic knowledge of Japanese is recommended
    • For bachelor's students, proof of language proficiency at the JLPT1 level (Japanese Proficiency: https://global.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/t-cens_EAP/language-requirements/) is necessary 
  • Available Modules:
    • For master's students, courses from the "School of Engineering" and the "Graduate School of Information Science and Technology" can be taken
    • It is recommended to undertake a master's internship at the Nakao Research Lab (https://www.nakao-lab.org/)
    • For bachelor's students, only courses from the 3rd and 4th years of the "Faculty of Engineering" are available

After a successful application, you will be nominated by us and you will need to provide some administrative documents for the exchange.
