Research

Our research is centred around Socially Interactive Agents (SIA) with either a virtual or physical embodiment. Intelligent Virtual Agents (IVAs) and Social Robots (SRs) are envisioned to support human users in their everyday lives in the not too distant future. We are particularly interested in designing, building, and evaluating the multimodal behaviours of SIAs to scaffold intuitive and effective usage in domains such as education, living support, or entertainment. As these domains are social by nature, the agents should be aware of the context of the social situation and the task.

Our research is interdisciplinary oriented. Coming from computer science, we are interested in the implementation of intelligent interactive systems. Since these systems are built for intuitive use by human users, our research makes use of methods and findings from psychology, cognitive sciences, social sciences and education.
