The aim of the Sauber3D project is to develop a fully automated solution for deburring injection molded plastic parts. The system uses an industrial manipulator with a 2D laser profiler and a deburring tool attached to its end effector. Information from the CAD model of the part being machined is used to create an initial path around the burr edges, during which laser scans are acquired. The individual scans are fused into a point cloud, the burr to be removed is detected, and the final path with the correct angle of attack for the deburring tool is calculated. The burr is then removed automatically.
