"Algorithms and Combinatorics on Words"
Abstract:
The domain of algorithms on strings is fond of combinatorial properties on words. They are used to analyse the behavior of algorithms in conjunction with statistical results, and sometimes lead to improving their design up to optimal characteristics.
Conversely, some combinatorial properties on words, obtained without any algorithmic objectives, yield surprising algorithms that are efficient according to various aspects. We give a few examples of these two phenomena in order to emphasize the need for more intensive studies on combinatorics on words.
Examples are taken from string matching under several constraints and from sequence assembly. The notion of periodicity in words is central to most examples.
Interessierte sind herzlich eingeladen.
Im Anschluss an den Vortrag besteht im Raum A117 bei Kaffee/Tee die Möglichkeit zu einem Gespräch mit Prof. Crochemore.
