The drawing editor Ipe

Ipe is a drawing editor for creating vector graphics, written by a scientist for scientists.

Ipe is based on using Latex for all text in the drawing, which makes it easy to write mathematics, and to reuse the Latex-macros of the paper for which one is making figures or a presentation.

Ipe provides various snapping modes where object features become "magnetic" and attract the cursor, to make it easy to align objects.

Ipe is extensible in the easy-to-learn scripting language Lua, so users can write plugins to perform operations they commonly need or that are specific to their research. Such plugins already exist for computing Voronoi diagrams, some basic Euclidean geometry, automatically layout graphs, etc.

Depending on the audience, we can start with an introduction to Ipe reviewing its main features, followed by a tour of the new features that were added in the last year or so.

Source code, binaries, and documentation of Ipe are freely available.
