Konzept des Praktikums

In this master’s-level practicum, students will explore the methods of natural language processing (NLP). Working in small groups, they will analyze large text datasets from the Internet to train a model designed to solve a specific task. Each small group will address the same research question. At the end of the semester, the various approaches and solutions will be presented and evaluated using a test dataset.

The focus of this practicum is on learning NLP methods and the scientifically grounded development of creative new approaches to achieve the set goal.

Ablauf des Praktikums

Students have a great deal of freedom in approaching the assigned problem within this practicum. Large-group meetings are scheduled for all participants every two weeks. During these meetings, students present their progress (possibly with short presentations), clarify questions, and discuss problems.

By the end of the semester, each small group should be able to demonstrate a functioning system that is evaluated on a previously unknown test dataset. If the system performs well, there may be an opportunity to submit a scientific paper to a conference or workshop.
