Application
Please follow these steps to apply to the Artificial Intelligence & Extended Reality MSc programme:
- Submit your application documents as outlined below.
- Your application documents will be subject to an aptitude test conducted by our department according to the admission requirements below.
- If you successfully pass the aptitude test, you will either directly receive an admission letter (national applications) or your application will be forwarded to the international students office for final checks and then be issued an admission letter (international applications)
- With this letter, you will need to enrol in the AI&XR MSc programme by registering and paying the semester fees. Please follow this link for more information and instructions.

The application deadline for the winter semester is March 15th. If any required documents are not yet available to you until that date you may hand them in until August 31 respectively.

Admission requirements
The subject-specific provisions in the 2024 revision state the following requirements for the application to the AI&XR master programme:
- A successfully completed Bachelor's degree equivalent to 180 ECTS credit points with a German degree grade of 2.5 or better
- Having acquired at least 100 ECTS credit points in fundamental computer science and math courses, including at least 35 ECTS credit points in courses from mathematics, AI or HCI
- A completed thesis on a computer science topic equivalent to 10 ECTS credit points
- English language proficiency, B2 level
If you fulfil these requirements and your degree grade in the German grading system is 2.0 or better you can be directly admitted to the programme. If you fulfil these requirements but with a grade between 2.0 and 2.5 you can still be invited to an oral aptitude test for admittance.
Application instructions
Applicants with a Higher Education Entrance Qualification from Germany
Applications must be submitted in full through WueStudy until March 15th, 2024.
Required Documents
- Filled Excel application sheet(alternative Libreoffice version)
- Bachelor's degree certificate
- Transcript of records for your Bachelor's degree
- A copy of your Bachelor's thesis or an equivalent research paper
- Proof of English language proficiency (can be your Abitur certificate with a grade of 7 or better or an English medium of instruction certificate from a Bachelor's degree)
If documents required at the time of application are not yet available through no fault of the applicant (for example, if the final degree certificate has not been issued yet), they must be submitted by August 31.
International Applicants without a Higher Education Entrance Qualification from Germany
Applications must be submitted in full through WueStudy until March 15th, 2024.
Please note: Documents that are not issued in German or English must additionally be submitted with an officially certified translation into German or English. Notes on officially certified copies and translations

- B2 English proficiency certificate (e.g. IELTS with a score of 6 or better, or a proof of English as a medium of instruction in your Bachelor's degree)
- Higher education entrance qualification certificate (e.g. high school diploma)
- uni-Assist VPD (only if you do not have a Bachelor's degree from a university in Germany or Europe)
- Applicants from China, Vietnam and India must apply in advance for a certificate from the Akademischen Prüfstelle (APS) and submit it
If documents required at the time of application are not yet available through no fault of the applicant (for example, if the final degree certificate has not been issued yet), they must be submitted by August 31.
Aptitude test
If you fulfil the admission requirements and your degree grade is 2.0 or better (in the German grading system) you can be directly admitted to the programme. If you fulfil these requirements but with a grade between 2.0 and 2.5 you can be invited to an oral aptitude test for admittance. The exam must be passed with a grade of at least 4.0.
This 30 minute oral test examines your knowledge in these areas:
- Theoretical computer science
- Practical computer science (algorithms and data structures, programming, software technology)
- Technical computer science (digital computer systems, information transmission
