Can we learn how to draw a graph?

Abstract:

We investigate in which ways techniques from representation learning can be applied for graph drawing related problems. In my talk I will concentrate on future research directions. I will discuss, which tools are available and highlight the interplay between machine learning and graph drawing. As an illustrating example I discuss the following problem: Given a drawing computed with an established graph drawing algorithm, for which some of the nodes are deleted. The task is to place the deleted nodes close to the original positions knowing only the graph and the remaining layout. Experiments evaluate the quality of the solutions of a machine learning workflow in comparison to other approaches.
