Best Paper Award at GD'16

09/28/2016

The paper "Block Crossings in Storyline Visualizations" has received the best paper award at GD'16. The paper has been joint work by researchers of chair I, two students from Würzburg and colleagues from California and the Ukraine.

The prize winners

The awarded contribution is the result of merging two papers that have been written independently: When authors from our chair submitted their work to the 24th International Symposium on Graph Drawing & Network Visualization, they were informed that Martin Fink and Subhash Suri of the University of California had submitted a paper on the same topic to the same conference. In fact, even the titles of the submissions only differed in a single word – "Minimizing...". Fortunately, the results complimented each other very well, so that merging the two papers into one was possible. Also, it was not the first joint work for the authors – Alexander Wolff is Martin Fink's doctoral advisor.
